Mean old lady at Swamis beach.

The past few days I've had some very strange or better yet interesting interactions. I had the pleasure of going on a nice lunch date with a friend which was followed by a walk on the beach along the bluff. Along the bluffs, you can usually find spots to sit and watch the sunset. We walked and there was a good spot to sit and watch the ocean. I wasn’t surprised to see someone's stuff lying there keys, phones, wallet, and a T-shirt. I quickly came down to walk along the bluff further. Before I could do that this older lady maybe in her late 60s began yelling from where the waves were hitting the shore. She seemed to have been swimming or playing in the waves before. At first, we couldn’t make out what she was yelling and initially, I thought she was saying something polite, mind my naiveness. As she got closer I could hear her tone start to sound a bit more aggressive, I stood confused looking at my friend. When she got possibly six feet away at a normal distance I heard her saying “Get away from my stuff.”

She then continued verbally berating me which was followed by how I looked like I had bad intentions and that I was looking much too interested in her belongings. We turned to each other so confused as this lady continued on this tantrum. She goes on to tell me to jump in the water since I'm at the beach and what business I have here if I'm not surfing or in the water. The conflict eventually de-escalated by us just walking further along and sitting down on another platform. She wasn’t okay with that either. She walked down gave us a nasty old look and yelled 15 feet away “You will have bad karma for your evil intentions and karma will get you eventually.”

We sat and stared at her in silence, no words needed to be given back.

The hour went by while we sat on the bluff and watched the sky turn orange and the ocean gleam for miles farther than the eye could see. It was a beautiful sunset with unfortunately a not very beautiful interaction. It reminded me that there are people who no matter what you do or say will find a way to be angry.
