Nevada 221
I’ve never been a huge stand-up comedy fan but after last night my opinion on it has changed. Kylus introduced me to some friends of his who are a great company to be around. The pair of extraordinary ladies is a 49-year-old german big wall climber named Nora and the other is a 30-year-old Florida girl named Lorena. It was a rainy Tuesday so none of us planned to go climbing so they bought 4 tickets to the Comedy Cellar here in Las Vegas. I’ve only ever been to improv shows when I was 18 living in the bay area to support a friend and her goal of becoming a comedian. I wonder how she is doing. We met at 6 pm and pregramed they drank their canned cocktails and I by getting maybe too stoned. I don’t do much drinking nowadays and that’s what I guess people call California sober. We swarmed in Noras sprinter van and headed to the show. It felt legitimate like a cellar brick walls low ceilings and dark with dim lighting. Right off the bat the show was live and the four comedians that went up were great. I look forward to the next one.
While Nora and Lorena have been here it’s been nothing short of eventful. It was a windy cold Tuesday and I didn’t plan on climbing outside. Their excitement and motivation to get out despite the conditions were inspiring. After a great training session in the gym, we drove into the canyon they have been wanting to climb cat in the hat a 5-pitch climb that goes at 5.6. We start the approach and in 40 minutes were at the base of this awesome looking climb with awesome cracks that are insanely featured. We climbed 3 pitches and bailed from there it was getting dark and cold none of us had headlamps and it wasn’t a day to epic. Overall the climbing was amazing and am excited to go back and finish it up. Hopping on these classic routes that red rock is known for always shows me why this is a world-class destination and not only for the casinos and buffets.
