The entertaining face
While assisting a lady, she suddenly remarked, “Your face is interesting.” I glanced up at her, slightly confused yet not visibly upset. She continued, “Your face entertains me,” and proceeded to imitate a version of my face—doing duck lips and bobbing her head side to side like a bobblehead, an imitation I didnt think looked like me very much. Confused , I asked her, “Should I take that as a compliment or an insult?” She ambiguously replied, “Take it however you want to take it.” Well in that moment, it felt more of an insult, I responded after 30 seconds of awkward silence with a , “Your face is interesting too. In fact, it really entertains me as well.” I then made a blank stare into space, mirroring what she looked like.
She looked at me, clearly taken aback and not expecting my response. As she was leaving, I offered a polite, “Have a nice day.” Just before she exited the door, she called out, “Weirdo.” I spun around in disbelief, speechless. I thought to myself who even calls anyone a weirdo anymore. I have to hand it to her though it was a good one word finisher.
That was the conclusion of my night at work. The entire episode left me pondering—not about anything profound, but about what I could have said differently and why she said what she did. It even made me question if I really do make that ridiculous face while working. I’m uncertain if I want to see her again. Maybe I do, maybe I don’t. What would I say if we met again? What would you advise me to say? Regardless, there’s no bad blood, all love from my side.
