Yosemite 236

On August 21st, a new crack formation emerged right here in Yosemite Valley. It's a 200-foot-long splitter crack that extends from the Super Slide, a highly popular 5-pitch route. We were fortunate enough to climb it just a few days after the crack formed, and a few other climbers managed to make ascents as well. I was informed that on a geological timescale, an event like this occurs roughly every 200,000 years. This is because the crack developed on a wall where rockfalls are infrequent if they happen at all. It was truly a spectacular experience to ascend something that had recently formed through a natural phenomenon.
