2024

This is the anticipated post for the New Year, where I, for my own sake, reflect on the journey of the past year.

In 2023, numerous unique experiences marked this special year. I had the privilege of residing in Las Vegas and exploring the breathtaking Red Rocks. During the winter, I lived in a small 2008 Subaru Forester for months, only to return to California and make a significant, life-changing decision—to invest in a van and start the process of transforming it into a mini home. Eventually, I revisited Yosemite for another climbing summer, a decision that brought me not only cherished friendships but also experiences unique to such a remarkable place. Unfortunately, my climbing season concluded prematurely due to a lurking shoulder injury that demanded attention after enduring years of strain. I made my way back to San Diego to spend time with family, seeking both physical healing and subjecting myself to more challenges that may or may not be the smartest.

Perhaps others have experienced this, but currently, my life feels as though it has been put on pause, awaiting the next move at the discretion of an unseen remote controller reluctant to press play. Returning to San Diego, my hometown, after an extended period away feels like hitting the pause button. Absence really opens the curtain to the realization that places and people remain relatively unchanged. While family ages and friends undergo subtle transformations, the core essence remains untouched. As the returning individual, one discovers personal evolution shaped by the outside world—sometimes challenging feeling beaten down even defeated at times, yet ultimately uplifting. The lens through which I once viewed my hometown and surroundings has shifted; the fog has lifted, and now, things are clear.

For now.

Some aspects of my life have diminished in value, while others have gained an elevated significance. Which has caused some clashes with family and even with friends at times.

The upcoming year brings excitement with a heightened focus. I aim to nurture this website, transforming my passion into a tangible reality. I’d also like to fall in love. I’ll just slip that in there real sneakily. Seriously though what good is anything in life if you cannot share it with someone you love and share that happiness with? When I was younger I was so hell-bent on being alone, traveling alone, and doing everything alone. I believed that happiness isn’t achieved through relationships or human companionship but as i’ve gotten older and have loved and lost. I know I am wrong and I’m so glad I am.

May everyone be surrounded by friends and family tonight and this coming year, and if that doesn’t feed your soul, may blessings and happiness find you in your solitude.

Happy new year.
