A storm is coming…

I’m growing increasingly anxious about the impending storm in Southern California. Flood warnings are rampant across North County, heightening my worries. I’ve been putting off fixing a leak in my van’s roof, mainly because I’m not sure where exactly it is. It seems to be around the gutter bracket, which runs along the van’s entire perimeter. My van, a 1996 model, has gathered rust over the years, leading to small cracks that allow water to seep in during heavy rains. It hasn’t rained much, but when it does – especially heavily – it’s enough to soak my bed and make the inside of my van unpleasant. Another major concern is potential flooding, considering San Diego’s limited drainage systems aren’t really prepared for such heavy rainfall. Just a week or so ago, after a few days of heavy rain, things got chaotic: houses flooded, streets turned into water slides. To avoid the floods, I might have to move to higher ground and leave my van behind. This isn’t a vehicle I want to be controlling when the streets are flooded with 2 inches of water. As a San Diegan, I must admit the rain makes me uneasy, a feeling that’s grown since I returned to the city after being away for a long time. It’s true, we San Diegans are a soft bunch when it comes to weather. To all the transplants from the East Coast and Midwest, well, this is your time to show your grit.
