A Dummies Guide to Dirtbagging and Van Dwelling.

I started living out of my vehicle in 2019, cycling through multiple cars and camper setups while traveling across the American West in search of adventure. I’ve endured brutal winters, scorching summers, and everything in between—no fancy van build, just a young guy eager to explore the outdoors. Little did I know, this nomadic lifestyle would completely change my life.

I’m a rock climber, ultra-runner, writer, and lifelong dirtbag, and through years of trial and error, I’ve learned what works, what doesn’t, and how to make the most of van life, road travel, and off-grid living. This book is a no-BS guide to van dwelling, dirtbagging, and minimalist travel, packed with essential tips for living in your car, finding free camping, staying clean on the road, and making money while traveling.

Whether you're a climber searching for the best crags, a digital nomad seeking freedom, a road-tripper looking for adventure, or just someone trying to escape the grind, this guide will help you navigate the highs and lows of life on the road. I’m sharing my dummy-proof tips on how to do it—or at least how I did it—so you can dirtbag smarter, travel cheaper, and embrace the freedom of the open road.
