California 196
Woke up this morning and drove straight to oakhurst for an oil change and groceries. My Subaru Forester burns through oil like a wildfire burns through California. It was good to be in a small town with a normal priced store for my essentials like fruit and other small necessities. Sunday the 07 of august I went climbing with Jack and Jamie who is the thumbnail to this blog post. We ventured out of curry village and headed to the crag called Pat and Jack we hopped on a few easy sport routes then we gave our best shot at a mixed sport/trad route. I initially led the climb but was one bolt away from the anchors, I was pretty bummed but it happens to the best of us. My excuse is my crack climbing strength hasn’t caught up to my sport climbing strength and not even close. Jamie volunteered to hop on it and see if she can finish where I left off. She sent the move and missed by a hair the unfortunate part of her missing the move was the rope caught her leg behind her and she went falling about eight feet on a ledge without a helmet on. I initially thought she was unconscious but she was awake and yelled down, “Lower me down please!”
I lowered her down nice and slow but when she came down we immediately saw blood all over head and chest it was something out of a massacre movie. She took a nasty fall on her head and in addition to her back. That night she drove to the nearest hospital and received four staples to the back of her head and all the meanwhile with a super sore back. I believe the important lesson is to where a helmet but you live and you learn. Emphasis on the you live part. Jamie is a trooper and im glad she’s okay.
