Enjoy the little things. Sitting at Peets Coffee with Madeline and she’s sewing my shirt and a pair of pants that ripped recently. I’m on my laptop downloading movies for us to watch later. The days move slowly when you don’t have a real agenda. They tend to drag and you have to put effort into keeping yourself busy, sometimes including finding random tasks like sewing or downloading movies. It’s nothing like living in a house or an apartment where you can go home and eat some salsa and chips maybe lay on the couch for a few hours. Living out of your car there is no real downtime I never found myself wanting to lay in my car on a dirt pull-out on the side of the road or a Walmart parking lot in the middle of the day. I unfortunately am never eager to do that. It’s been simple so far having Madeline with me there isn’t an oz of displeasure in her eyes, whatever we might be doing.

We woke up this morning pushed against the side of my car the windows moist with condensation and the sun peering through the parts of the window I didn’t cover with insulation. I hopped out and greeted jack in his van next to me and began making instant coffee, It’s not fancy but it does the job. I boiled some more water and grabbed the quaker oatmeal bags from the car, breakfast was served. It was a true dirtbag morning meal. We ate and the three of us hopped into my 2008 Subaru and drove into red rock canyon. We climbed and climbed and climbed until my fingers couldn’t hold up anymore. I appreciate Madeline for the numerous belays and my constant request for takes she was as patient as I thought she would be. I’m not satisfied much with my performance but who in the world cares, were there to enjoy the beautiful mountains and get some sore forearms. She was amazingly willing to join me on a trip to my interview at the red rock climbing center a local climbing gym in Las Vegas. I was interviewing for a route setter position it was mellow and casual. I was offered a job on the spot and now am accepting the fact I can be on my way to becoming a Vegas Local for who knows how long. I refuse to make long-term commitments to this place but at this stage in my life, I think this is a decision I won’t look back on.

Where will I be next month it’ll most likely be vegas. Where will I be next year… who knows? I feel the ocean is calling me after playing in the mountains for a few years. You can take the man away from the coast but can’t take the coast away from the man.
