Untitled short story

It was the year 1997 when a baby girl named Jane was born. Jane would grow up to be a very important person to everyone she encountered. But before I delve into Jane's story, I must discuss who she is and where she comes from.

She was the daughter of Rick, a Californian man, and Emma, a Southern belle from Alabama, and together they were known as the Mathers. Rick had been a troubled child, and his father—an aggravated alcoholic who was tougher than nails—believed that Rick was spiraling down the wrong path. Rick's father had no tolerance for laziness or fooling around, which was exactly how Rick behaved as a teenager: lazy and no-good. Emma, on the other hand, was born and raised in the small town of McCullough, just south of Uriah. Raised with strong morals and surrounded by a loving family, her family always believed she was destined to achieve great things. There were no two people more different than Rick and Emma.

This is a short story I began writing a few weeks ago. I’ll be posting small bits from it as the days go by. I'm currently about 40 pages in and plan to finish it at 50. I have found huge enjoyment and fulfillment in writing short creative stories that I know I can end at a moment's notice.
